Healthy Blood Pressure How to Achieve and Maintain

One of the most important things to keep healthy is your heart. When it comes to heart health it is critical to achieve and maintain a health blood pressure.

The best time to achieve and maintain a healthy blood pressure is before you are diagnosed with hypertension (a reading of 140/90 mm Hg or greater).

If you have already been diagnosed, it is not to late, only when they throw dirt in your face, have you waited to long. My poor old grey-headed mother almost waited to long. Being my mother she is almost as pig-headed as me and waited way to long to go to the doctor. Her doctor is trying to get the medication right, and I will be publishing quite a bit on blood pressure. So, sit back, relax, take your shoes off, and let us get started.

Things That Help


Now I don't have high blood pressure, but at time it will sky-rocket. I have no idea why, it just does. Months ago when I first started researching blood pressure, I read that Hibiscus tea would instantly lower your blood pressure. The next time I went to town I bought some and waited.

When I felt my pressure shoot-up I went and nuked some water and started some tea, taking my blood pressure with a wrist monitor. It has shoot up to 189/93, with it that high my head just doesn't feel right. Letting the tea seep, I would start sipping it. After 5 sips, my pressure would go down 5 point. After I finished the tea (about 20 minutes) my pressure would be back down to normal. I didn't believe it when I read it so I had to see. And you wont believe how good it actually taste.






Smoking
The first thing that the experts say is that you should do if you have high blood pressure, is quit smoking. Now, you are talking to a 43 year smoker. For 35 years I rolled my own cigarettes. Yes, you heard me right. I smoked Kite Mentholated Tobacco. Taylor made (store bought cigarettes) have not worked for years.

I have tried to quit many times, nothing has worked. Nicotine gum, pills, hypnosis. The only thing that I have not tried is acupuncture. I even tried the vaporizer. The normal ones that look like cigarettes, did nothing except make me want a cigarette. Then my brother did a little research and found one that is made for the hard-core smoker. He bought it for me, (I was skeptical).

Exercise
Exercise is the second most important thing that you can do to achieve and maintain a healthy blood pressure. It is suggested that you exercise regularly. They recommend that we get 30mins to one hour of exercise a day. Even a daily walk can do amazing things for our heart health.

Exercise programs, I have never done. I have had physical work my entire life. And the only time that I have joined a gym, is when I get to a new town, have a job and no place to shower. Here, we have a gym called Gold Gym. It use to be, that you could get a month subscription for thirty dollars. That is a dollar a day to take a shower. Not a bad price.

But, like I said, my mother has extremely high blood pressure, that is why I am doing this research. I found a book, published in 2005 that I hope will fill me in. I have a link to the kindle format. But, I hit the paper-back link and have a new book coming to the house. It only cost $2.24 for the book and three sometime for shipping. It sounded good. Just hope my mother will do some of the exercises. Only time will tell.

Diet
We all know that it is important to eat a healthy diet. There is enough (or should be) documentation on diets with low salt (or sodium) and sugar will help you maintain a healthy blood pressure. We are told to avoid processed food, and definitely do not add more salt. Most processed foods contain contain all if not more salt that we need.

We are told that if we eat a healthy diet, it will lead to a healthy weight, and the by-product of that is healthy blood pressure. To accomplish this we need to eat, lean proteins, lots of fruits and vegetables, and plenty of healthy fats from plant sources.

That is all fine and dandy. But, I am 57 years old, I weigh around 185 pounds (83.9146 kg), and I wear a size 34 pants (34 inches = 86.36 cm). I have never had to think about diet. I just ate everything that I could and as much as I could. This does not do my mother any good.

I have found two kindle books. You have to have a kindle reader, I do not have one. And am not going to buy one. So I got a free app from Amazon so I can read them on my computer. These two kindle books contain recipes so I will know what to buy and how to cook, for high blood pressure.

Stress
Stress is one thing that will elevate your blood pressure. It can be classified as another silent killers. We all have stress in our lives. It is how we manage stress that helps us achieve and maintain a healthy blood pressure. Most of our stress is self induced.

A lot of people that I have known, try to achieve to much in a day. Let us get real. There is only so much time. And we need to prioritize our activities, and do what is most important to us.

There are ways to manage our stress levels, exercise is one of them. Getting enough sleep, sleep is one of the things that most people do not get enough of. They would rather stay up and watch a stupid movie instead of going to sleep and dream. I do not understand it, but have seen a lot of it.

Meditation and yoga are other ways to repair the damage done by stress. They actually help in ever aspect of life. Meditation is the simplest thing to do. Just pay attention to your breath. You do not control, just pay attention to it coming and going.

You can find a lot of guided meditations on Youtube. Yoga is control stretching, just when you start, do it perfect inside your head. The body will follow when it can. It will not take as long as you think.

It is also critical that we spend time doing things that we enjoy, you have to give the mind time to de-stress itself. Spending time with friends or enjoying your hobby are good examples.

Beyond our blood pressure, living a healthy lifestyle can help us to have more energy and look and feel our best. Achieving and maintaining a healthy blood pressure can often be done through healthy lifestyle choices.
